Introduction
Are you missing the buzz of the Olympics? The cheers, the gymnastics music, and the thrill of competition? Why not bring its spirit into your workplace with your own ‘Work Games’?
In an era where employee engagement and satisfaction are critical to business success, a ‘Work Games’ can be a great way to boost morale and productivity. In a recent survey, nearly two-thirds of employees reported that the 2024 Summer Olympics had inspired them to deliver more creative and innovative work.1
So we took the hint, and hosted our own ‘Pétanque Games’, to prove that strategic downtime and a bit of teamwork can boost our creative thinking.
Why pétanque?
With the excitement of the Paris Olympics and Paralympics sweeping the globe, sports enthusiasts eagerly anticipated the lineup of events. However, one beloved French pastime was notably absent: pétanque.3,4 Instead, more youth-focused sports, like breakdancing, surfing, skateboarding, and climbing, were chosen.5
In response, we decided to take matters into our own hands by hosting a ‘Pétanque Games’, transforming the event into a celebration of this timeless French tradition.
The event, complete with music, drinks, and medals, was such a huge success in fostering camaraderie and a sense of community that 90% of employees surveyed were convinced that ‘mandatory fun’ should be part of the job description!
